I love the countdown idea. Hurry up and buy before its gone and before its marked higher. How did the sale work? Did you do it last year? If so was it better this year?

Here's a concept that I know works well in the US: (I don't know if these holidays are celebrated elsewhere)

Pick a pumpkin discount. The weekend or two before Halloween in the US, a store runs a two days sale. You put your hand inside a plastic pumpkin and pull out your discount which ranges from 10-50%. Put in very few 10%, a lot of 15 and 20% and very few 25-50%. People are thrilled they don't get the lowest (10%) and there's a lot of buzz going when someone pulls a 40 or 50% off. I've heard of people buying the larger discounts from strangers. Make sure you stamp a hand after they pick otherwise you'll get the double dippers!

This also works well around Easter, Have an Eggciting sale and pink an egg discount form a basket.

Should we run this on the forum and see what kind of ideas the group can generate?

I've seen a lot of US websites pre-selling hard to get lines. Do you do this? I know about this because we start getting reorders before we even ship.

I know of another store owner who doesn't have an on-line store. She puts outs Polaroid pictures under a glass mate at checkout of next seasons stuff coming in. When a customer wants to reserve it she turns the picture over and writes the name next to the size and calls the customer when it comes in. When the size is already sold she calls us and re-orders, again before we even ship!
